Contents 2. What is the structure of the “Fundamentals”?
Within the category of “Techniques”, i.e. “how to use the mind”, the “Fundamentals” are the “Lower Means”, or “the means that are studied first”. When reading a text like this, we use the system of e.g. the English language. This system is governed by rules, objects etc. In order to engage with the world, especially in e.g. philosophy, we need to first understand the systems by which we process philosophical thought. Those systems include a natural language such as English, logic and mathematics.
2. What is the structure of the “Fundamentals”? The “Fundamentals” are structured in the following way: 1. Elements 2. Systems 3. Maps The Elements are the basic “building blocks” from which we construct “syntheses”, such as systems. For example, the Latin alphabet, used to write English with, consists of smaller parts – or elements –, namely the graphemes. Together with the rules for how to put the graphemes together and how to map meaning to them (e.g. sounds), we construct the system of the English language. |
